Stretching is usually treated as the thing you do quickly before the thing that actually matters. The research tells a more interesting story, that what you're really working on isn't just muscle length, but the fascia wrapping every muscle, the nerves running through it, and the mobility that determines how much of your range you can actually access under pressure, not just in a warm-up.
Fascia is the connective tissue web wrapping every muscle, and it can develop adhesions and restrictions independent of the muscle itself. Most performers already stretch. The shift worth making is treating it as maintenance infrastructure, the same category as recovery and nutrition, rather than a five-minute formality before the real work starts.
Flexibility built slowly and consistently over time, not rushed in a five-minute pre-show warm-up, is what's actually available when a performer needs full range mid-number, under adrenaline, without time to think about it.
